Perhaps you've a complete beginner or have done a few basic tutorials ands need some exercises with tutor feedback? Do you want to work at a pace that suits you? If so this new course could be the course for you.
Is this Course Right for You?
This course assumes no knowledge whatsoever, the simple aim is to to get you painting and to build your confidence by providing tutor support and constructive feedback! It also aims to demystify some of the 'rules' surrounding botanical art. It builds from basic subject step-by-steps towards creating your own compositions at the end of the course.
What is Covered in this Course?
You will learn the basics in understanding and using materials and about the work environment
Fundamentals of drawing: how to measure and about perspective
How to transfer a drawing
Lighting and set up
Understanding the tonal values
Learn the watercolour techniques, wet-in-wet, washes, glazes, dry brush and detail
Colour mixing: with a limited palette and identifying the colours in a subject
Maintaining highlights, about form shadows
Texture and detail
Troubleshooting: such as, ragged edges, over painting, how to avoid flat heavy paint and repairing mistakes etc.
In the final assignments you will learn about composition and will complete a more complex composition and your first botanical illustration.
Course Materials and Assignments
The Course has 6 tutor assessed assignments delivered as PDF worksheets with videos. There are over 30 videos on different subjects and topics to assist your learning.
I personally edit student work digitally to show where changes can be made as part of the feedback.
Course Parts are as Follows:
Introduction with watercolour techniques
Part 1. Fruit
Part 2. Flowers
Part 3. Leaves
Part 4. Vegetables
Part 5. Mixed Composition
Part 6. Botanical Illustration
You will receive a written personal critique, with edited images to show you how to improve your work. Turn-a-round time is approximate 3 - 4 weeks unless you submit very late, in which case work will still be assessed but my take longer.
Your work will be digitally edited and annotated to show you where and how you can make improvements.
How much time will you need to spend per week on this course?
Around 5-6 hours per week will allow you to complete this course but the more time that you can dedicate the better the outcome.
What materials will you need for this course?
Download a suggested materials list here. These are fairly standard materials and more advice will be provided in advance of the course start date.
What happens after registration?
Passwords and introductory information will be emailed to registered students around 1 week before the course start date. You will also be sent a registration form.
The course will take approximately 10 - 12 months to complete but you will have access to materials for up to 2 years.

You can now pay a 50% deposit to secure you're place on the course, there is a small admin fee for this option, or you can pay in full. The pay Balance button if for those who already paid the deposit to secure their place.
